Behind the design
What was the idea and inspiration behind the Sway Lounge Chair?
"I was inspired by classic deck chairs, which are often constructed with as few elements as possible.
With Sway, I wanted to create an analog lounge chair that can be folded up completely without the use of
tools. I wanted a design with a clear expression – you can see that in the characteristic zigzag profile that
ties the chair together and gives it a distinctive silhouette."
How did you work to combine flexibility and aesthetics in the design?
“The fact that the chair has a pivot point and can be folded up has been central to the entire design – and
has also inspired the shape of the chair. An important detail is how the cushions are attached to the frame
with a round stick. This not only adds functionality, but also character and personality to the chair.”
What experience do you want people to have when using the Sway Lounge Chair?
“Because the chair is easy to move and fold up, I hope it adapts to the user's needs and
everyday life. I also want it to invite calm and contemplation – for little breaks where you can just be present.”
